A Compton Backscattering Polarimeter for Measuring Longitudinal Electron Polarization
نویسندگان
چکیده
Compton backscattering polarimetry provides a fast measurement of the polarization of an electron beam in a storage ring. Since the method is non-destructive, the polarization of the electrons can be monitored during internal target experiments. At NIKHEF a Compton polarimeter has been constructed to measure the polarization of the longitudinally polarized electrons stored in the AmPS ring. First results obtained with the polarimeter, the first Compton polarimeter to measure the polarization of a stored longitudinally polarized electron beam, are presented in this paper.

Design Studies for Flux and Polarization Measurements of Photons and Positrons for SLAC Proposal E166: An experiment to test polarized positron production in the FFTB
We present results from design studies carried out to investigate measurements of the flux, spectrum and polarization of undulator photons for SLAC Proposal E166. A transmission Compton polarimeter is considered for measuring the photon circular polarization. We also present results for measuring the flux and spectrum of positrons produced by the undulator photons in an 0.5X0 Titanium target. A...

A new Compton longitudinal polarimeter currently under construction for HERA is presented. The key component of the polarimeter is a Fabry-Pérot cavity located around the electron beam pipe. With such an optical cavity, a continuous laser power equivalent to 5 kW, much higher than those commercially available, can be achieved, leading to one backscattered photon per bunch crossing. This “few-ph...
متن کاملPolarimetry at a Future Linear Collider – How Precise?
At a future linear collider, a polarized electron beam will play an important role in interpreting new physics signals. Backgrounds to a new physics reaction can be reduced by choice of the electron polarization state. The origin of a new physics reaction can be clarified by measuring its polarization-dependence. This paper examines some options for polarimetry with an emphasis on physics issue...

A wide range of nucleon and nuclear structure experiments in Jefferson Lab’s Hall A require precise, continuous measurements of the polarization of the electron beam. In our Compton polarimeter, electrons are scattered off photons in a Fabry-Perot cavity; by measuring an asymmetry in the integrated signal of the scattered photons detected in a GSO crystal, we can make non-invasive, continuous m...
